I was also going to point to Ed Smith as a recent writer who seems to be cornering the market a little in a certain type of writing about sport, and his own game of cricket in particular. I don't always agree with him but his is one of the newer voices on the scene as it were. It is interesting to note that several cricket writers on the national press here in the UK are former players, most notably I supposed would be Mike Atherton, former England captain, who, like Smith, went to Cambridge, though 'The Times' for whom he writes is now behind Mr Murcoch's paywall.

Hi Wendy,

I stumbled across your site through a mutual loathing of the Bleacher Report (seriously, how can Wright Thompson and that site exist on the same planet?)and then found this post. I would suggest checking out Gideon Haigh as a first stop on all things cricket - a wonderful writer and perceptive analyst. You might also enjoy Ed Smith, who has written a good book comparing baseball and cricket. More broadly, I would recommend Cricinfo.com as a great resource both for news but also excellent commentary. Hope you dip your toe into the world of cricket and enjoy!
