. . . I would call it Sid Bream’s Slide, after my favorite Atlanta Braves moment — ever.

It was followed by heartbreak, as the Braves got burned in walkoff fashion by Joe Carter and the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series. The Braves’ 14-year postseason run, including the 1995 World Series crown, was something I never could have imagined as a child, watching their terrible forebears play before sparse crowds at Atlanta Fulton-County Stadium.

But nothing burnishes like the night of Oct. 14, 1992, and the play that sent the Braves into the 1992 World Series. I still can’t decide what was more improbable — Francisco Cabrera’s pinch-hit single, or Bream chugging around third place and barely beating the tag at home.

Earlier this season the Braves gave away a Bream bobblehead doll to mark the anniversary.

With all due apologies to Pittsburgh Pirates fans — for their team has not seen the post-season since — I still get goosebumps hearing Skip Caray’s unforgettable radio call.

Thanks for the memories, Sid. It will always feel like it happened yesterday.
